Learn More About Zebu

Miniature Zebu cattle are one of the oldest known cattle and true breed of miniature cattle. Dating back as far as 6000 B.C. They are native to India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The name “Zebu” came from a Tibetan word “ceba”, meaning “hump”. They have a hump on their back, even when born, a dewlap, and ears that point straight old from their head.

Zebu cattle are hardy, tolerate to extreme heat, and have a high resistance to disease. They measure 29 to 42 inches at the withers and weight between 200 and 600 pounds. They come in a variety of colors. Shades of black, gray, red, white, with gray being the most common. They also, come in numerous color patterns of brindle, paint, and speckled. They have a life span of 20 to 25 years and a slow to mature.

As with all Animals, they still need shelter from the elements. They do not care for rainy days. They love being in a pasture to graze throughout the day. A perfect breed of cattle for small farms. Do not require a lot of pasture for grazing. We have 8 to 12 head of cattle, at any given

time on 3 different pastures, totaling about 4 acres. We still need to cut the grass at times.

Can be raised for milk, meat, or just a pet. A great addition to any farm.
